Forward
by Nadine Hare

From gazing at the stars to reading the lines in a hand, or analyzing mystic symbols, Fortune Telling brings to life the meaning behind seemingly unimportant patterns around us. In doing so, it provides people and communities with certainties about the future - harvests, economic decisions, relationships and even births can be planned.

Fortunes conjure a predefined destiny or guide to be followed. Futures are deeply uncertain, opening space for individuals and collectives to shape them on their own accord.

Good Fortunes explores our roles in shaping the futures that emerge within our community. It asks us to reshape our pasts in order to envision new futures. How might each of us future tell in a more equal, caring and “good” way?

This project was started as a response to the pandemic and made possible through the City of Toronto ArtWorxTO Grant, celebrating the year of Public Art

Hosted at 56 Ossington (patio of Tiger of Sweden), it is an outdoor exhibition accessible 24/7

Last day to experience this is Sunday, July 4th, 2021

Land Acknowledgment

The City of Toronto acknowledges that we are on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The City also acknowledges that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

African Ancestral Acknowledgement

The City of Toronto acknowledges all Treaty peoples – including those who came here as settlers – as migrants either in this generation or in generations past - and those of us who came here involuntarily, particularly those brought to these lands as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. We pay tribute to those ancestors of African origin and descent.
